Big things are happening in Mississauga, or should I say Peel? That’s the first bit of news to share, since we have workshops taking place in Brampton and Mississauga, we felt that a name change was in order. We will now be called the Peel Chapter of the Toronto Writers Collective. We feel this best represents who we are and what we are offering to the community of Peel!
We currently have 4 workshops running in Peel with another one to launch in July. We are excited to be partnering with two local groups and bringing the transformative power of creative writing to our region.
Mind Forward, whose clients are those with acquired brain injuries, and Friends and Advocates, whose clients are dealing with Mental Health challenges, continue to offer workshops. I am grateful for their partnership.
We also currently offer 2 open workshops to Peel residents and beyond. Wednesday morning O. Stephen and Leona facilitate a write to all. O. Stephen has been doing great work with a themed month around poetry and will be a mentor in the upcoming Write On! III program. While on Saturday mornings you will find myself, Areeba and Uzma facilitating a workshop from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. We usually have a full house and are blessed to hear such wonderful pieces every week.
Upcoming, we are in the process of adding another open workshop. Monday nights starting in July you will find Areeba and Chadia facilitating a new session to our community. We are excited to add this workshop to our line-up.
Last, but not least, our unique partnership with Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM), continues. A monthly workshop where the participants write to a piece of art as the prompt has been very popular. We just wrapped up our last session for this year, but we will return in September to work with VAM again! I would like to thank Kaitlyn and Vibha for helping to see this workshop through to the end. Both will also return in September which we are all excited about.
We look forward to more growth, more deep writing and more transformative pieces!
